Books were once an essential component of personal fashion. Medieval “girdle books,” for instance, were prayer books or other reference volumes held in leather bindings that could be attached to one’s belt, or girdle, for easy access. This Book Bag imagines a contemporary analog of the girdle book, anticipating the return of the book as both functional necessity and fashion item.
